About the Artist

About The Artist – Arelene R. Atherton

Arlene R. Atherton: Graduate of Columbia University in New York City, Photographer, Cultural Anthropologist, Art Historian traveled to S.E. Asia visiting the three most affected countries.

She collected eyewitness drawings from children who survived the Tsunami. She traveled to schools in Galle, Sri Lanka; Banda Aceh, Indonesia; and relief camps in Khao Lak and Phi Phi Islands in Thailand. These areas are not as impacted by Western influence and the drawing styles reflect the native view of storytelling found in the Indigenous Culture.

Atherton studied Documentary Photography at International Center of Photography in New York City.
